Our chosen local charity is Winston’s Wish

As a local, family-run business Arnica is committed to supporting our community beyond looking after the health and well-being of local patients, for example, supporting causes close to our staff and patients’ hearts.

With this is mind, we are committed to regularly supporting local community-based organisations and charities such as Winston’s Wish.

What does Winston’s Wish do?

As a charity, Winston’s Wish relies on the charitable support of individuals and businesses like us. Our funding is vital in enabling the running of the Helpline, the weekly groups, and the support services needed to help grieving, vulnerable children and young people make sense of death, and give them the coping skills needed to rebuild their lives.

Winston's Wish group of children

Winston’s Wish has been supporting children since 1992

Have you ever lost someone close to you? Then you’ll know just how difficult grief is to deal with, and the passing of a close family member can be particularly devastating. So imagine how tough it must be for a child or young person to lose a mother, a father or a sibling. For someone so young, to lose someone close can be life altering. It can impact their life, their behaviour, their relationships and their future in ways that we cannot imagine. At Christmas and other family-oriented holidays, a child can have a particularly difficult time dealing with their grief. Winston’s Wish have been supporting children and young people since 1992, giving them the help they need to cope with the death of someone important in their lives.

Winston’s Wish Currently Supports Over 40,000 Bereaved Children

Every day in the UK, more than 100 children will lose a parent through death. Unaddressed grief can have long-lasting effects on a child that may lead to problems later on in life. According to the charity, the incidence of childhood bereavement in youth offenders is ten times higher than the national average. This clearly demonstrates the long-term impact such a tragedy can cause a child or young person. Winston’s Wish currently supports almost 40,000 bereaved children and young people each year, helping them to deal with their grief, and provide the support they need to turn their lives around and find some hope in their future.
